TAlking About Talking About
"Legend" & "Devil In Red Velvet": The Recording Of "Legend" :

Do You Know How It Happened That Marc Almond & Neal Whitmore(NealX) Wrote "Devil In Red Velvet" For P.J.PROBY ?
Here Is The Story Told By The Man Who Did The Painting
"Devil In RedVelvet" For P.J.PROBY - Mr. Ron Tennant :The Devil In Red Velvet
Late 1995,Former Soft-Cell Vocalist Marc Almond Saw That One Of His Favourite
60´s Singers P.J.PROBY,Was Guesting In The West-End Of London Production Of
The Musical "Only The Lonely".This Was The Story Of Roy Orbison,Who Was Also
A Favourite Of Marc´s.He Decided To See The Show And Was Very Impressed With JIM PROBY´s Performance - Especially The Big Ballads.
Marc Went Backstage To Meet Jim After The Show And Each Discovered Their
Mutual Respect For Each Other Musically.Marc Was Delighted To Meet One Of The Biggest Solo-Stars Ever & Jim Was Equally Pleased To Be Introducted To A "Modern" Pop Star, Who Knew The Business Inside out.
They Discussed The Possibility Of Working Together On An Album & Marc Said He Would Send Demo´s Of Songs That He Would Write Especially For PROBY´s Voice.
Marc Almond & Neal Whitmore Wrote Three Magnificient Numbers :
"I´m Coming Back","Suburban Opera" And The Third Was Called "Devil In Red Velvet".That Song Was Inspired BY Marc Seeing A Large Painting Hanging In Proby´s Theatre Dressing-Room Called "Devil In Red Velvet".This Painting Was Presented To Jim
TwoYears Earlier By - Ron Tennant. It Showed Jim Rockin´It Up On Stage In One Of HisFamous Velvet Costumes.
Jim Had Them Made In Blue,Black & White, But When He Wore The Red Version And
DidAll Of His Controversial Stage Movements - Then He Really Was A Devil To
Some People.......Marc Wrote The Song With Neal X Because The Title Stayed In His Head And Marc Loved That Image Of Proby & The Danger He was In The Mid -6o´s To All Females AndTo Society In General.
We All Know His "Bad Boy" Image Was Part Of The Reason He Was Eventually Requested To Leave England. To Lord Longford & Mary Whitehouse -
He Was "The Devil In Red Velvet" - Long Live "THE LEGEND" !!Thank You Ron Tennant For Sending Me The Copy Of Your Painting - And For Letting
The Probyans Know The Real Story Behind The Song "Devil In Red Velvet" !!!
Ron Painted This Painting For About Eight Years Ago.
He Told Me It Is Called "He Wore Blue Velvet"
No One Has Seen It Before......![]()
